News Flash! Finally, Paris Hilton with a GOOD Weave!

I figured that heading would get your attention LOL. I was doing my usual browsing of the web, looking mostly for pictures of bad celebrity hair, and lo and behold, I stumbled upon this picture of a barely recognizable Miss Paris Hilton. Gaaasssp! While her extensions still look a bit "extension-y" in this picture, I must say that this is the best I have seen her hair looking. Ever. Did I say...EVER??! Paris looks absolutely lovely in this picture; very girl-next-door, and wholesome, like you would let her babysit your kids. Obviously I'm joking. I mean, let's not forget, this is Paris Hilton. I don't even think Nicole Richie would let her babysit little Rumrunner Raisin and MazdaSweetsummer-Springandfall. But her hair looks great in this pic, and that to me, is newsworthy! Miss MyMy gives Paris 4 MyMyMyMy's out of 5.

...and the Hair Improvement Award goes to...

Just kidding, no award here. You guys must know, that since I'm in the business of hair, I am always looking for images of hair; celebrity hair, good weaves, bad weaves, great hair, hair DISASTERS, and so on. I've done the last few entries on BAD celebrity hair, so I think it only fair to post up some pics of some celebs who have their hair in order. In order to show their good, however, I'm going to show how they have improved! First up: JLo, Jenny from the Block, Jennifer Lopez, Mrs. Marc Anthony. Apparently the first picture was snapped as she left her hairdresser's. REALLY???? When I first saw this picture, I thought it was a JLo impersonator. So many words came to mind. Words like, elf, drag, sideburns, and pixie. In the second pic, you can see, Ms. Lopez can be commended for proper use of hair extensions. She's used them to add volume and length to her hair as well as texture with those nice chunky highlights. I'll give her 3 MyMyMy's of out 5.

Next up: Nicole Richie. It seems that when Nicole's friendship with Paris Hilton fizzled, the quality of her hair extensions improved significantly. Nicole was always guilty of the dreaded "obvious" natural hair-hair extension attachment line. Whewww..what a mouthful! You could always tell where her extensions began and ended. Her hair always looked like a matted, hot mess. Very bad! BUT she has matured into a mother and wife, and since ditching Paris, her hair has improved, so Nicole Richie gets 2.5 MyMyM's out of 5.

Finally...Brandy. Ray Jay's sister LOL It's hard to really pick on Brandy for the braids in that picture, because she was very young, it was the 90's...blah blah blah. So I'll be kind and gloss over the "before" infractions. In the "after" picture, I think Brandy has matured into a very stylish, sexy woman, and her hair looks great! I'll give her 4 MyMyMyMy's!

Britney's keeping me busy...let Miss MyMy help you!

I think it's safe to say Britney must pay a lot of money to get her hair "did". So can anyone explain to me why she's always caught out there (to quote Kelis) with her hair looking so putrid??? I know, there really is no explanation. It just hurts my heart to see her extensions looking so jacked up. On that note, who the HELL is her stylist??? I want to know who in Hollywood is ducking behind trees, and hiding behind newspapers and sunglasses so they won't get fingered as Britney Spears Stylist. SHAME SHAME SHAME on you, whoever you are. Britney, like I said before...come here sweetie...Miss MyMy wants to help you. I can guarantee you will never be seen in bad extensions AGAIN!

Miss MyMy wants to save Hollywood!

Okay, you guys have got to be on my side with this one. So this morning I'm browsing the web, looking up pics of weaves and wigs, and I come across (it was so hard to pick just one celebrity) these pictures of Britney Spears sporting one of the most disastrous weaves I have ever seen. I'm still sitting here, mouth agape... Britney sweetie, you have all the money in the world (well half, after you pay K-Fed his ch'sup)! HONESTLY??? you PAID someone for that??? And you probably paid a pretty penny too. Someone is out there giving the art of hair weaving a really bad name. Britney, if you hear me...give Miss MyMy a call. Girl, let us hook your stuff UP!!!

Naomi Campbell hair loss

We’ve all seen the pics of Naomi Campbell balding, and some people are getting quite the laugh about it. I’ve heard everything, from Karma is a b*tch to she has been wearing extensions for too long. I would like to take the time to give my opinion on both.
Yes, karma can be a b*tch , but God doesn't like ugly, and I feel very badly for her. We all know how it feels if our hair just breaks a little…we start losing our minds. Even though she has the reputation of getting into quite a few scraps, no one deserves this.
In the world of extensions, bad quality, bad application, bad removal and not caring for your own hair can = hair loss.
Poor quality hair has a mix of synthetic fibers, (these are the fibers that cause your skin to itch), and over time, they can cut your hair like scissors.
Bad application: Tighter is not better and putting in a weave is not simply braiding some tracks and sewing on hair however they will go in. Although the tracks should be solid they should not be so tight to cause extreme pain. Pain will = hair loss over time because your hair will pull out from the roots. Extensions should also be put in so the weight is very balanced. A well balanced weave will not cause excess pressure on your hair consequently damaging it.
Bad removal: Time must be taken when removing a weave…don’t rush or pull the hair.
Not caring for your own hair: Yes, we KNOW you bought and paid for this hair! In some cases you like it better than your own, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take care of your own hair. Weave removal should be followed by a deep treatment before putting your weave back in. The weave, (service, not the hair, because Miss MyMy hair can be reused), should also be removed and redone every 6 to 8 weeks - depending on how fast your hair grows. If you can pull your tracks an inch away from your head…you’ve gone tooooooo long. This goes for fusion as well…the further away from your head your extensions are the more hair loss you can expect because the more weight is put on your own hair.
It looks like Naomi is experiencing alopecia which causes hair loss http://www.missmymy.com/hair_loss.html and there really isn’t anything she can do about it.
My suggestion is a Miss MyMy full lace wig http://www.missmymy.com/wigs.html which will eliminate any more hair and/or weave malfunctions…girrrlll you are too hot to get caught again!

Why do people wear wigs?

I get asked a lot from friends and family, "why do people wear wigs?" There really is no one clear answer to that question. We have clients who wear wigs because they have experienced hair loss of varying degrees of severity. Some have lost some hair only on top; some have lost ALL their hair. Some are undergoing chemotherapy. We have clients who just don't want to be bothered having to deal with their own hair, or perhaps just want to give their hair a break from relaxers or perms.

I do have one client with an interesting story that I wanted to share with you. She's recently begun having severe allergic reaction to hair dyes. Her story is below.

The month before I went into Miss MyMy for the first time, I coloured my hair as I have many times since I was a teenager. The time prior, I experienced some sensitivity, and thought it had more to do with my relaxer than the hair colour, so this time, I used a salon formula hair colour, and waited weeks between relaxing and colouring. In fact I hadn't relaxed at all prior to colouring. I applied the colour following the directions. Everything seemed to be going well. The colour looked lovely, and I was happy. For a couple hours...

Later that evening, my scalp started to tingle. Tingle turned to itching. By the time I went to bed, it was full fledged burning! I woke up in the morning with my hair sticking to my scalp. My entire scalp was a mess of weeping sores. The pain was excruciating! I was so uncomfortable, I could barely focus on anything other than the feeling of my head being on fire. That night, I had to wrap a towel around my pillow to keep my pillow from being stained. When I woke up the next morning, I felt like I was coming down with the flu. My glands around my neck were all swollen, and my throat was sore. There was a rash down the back of my neck, around my hairline, and behind my ears. The bottom of my feet were itching so badly. That night I couldn't sleep at all, I was so uncomfortable. I cried. I sat up all night watching movies. I read. I surfed the web. I found out there are MANY people who have had severe allergic reactions to a chemical called paraphenylenediamine (PPD) commonly used in hair dyes. Some of them had worse reactions than I did. Many required hospitalization.

At this point my vanity began to rear it's head. I started going grey very early (I was 25). Having recently celebrated my 40th birthday, I really am in no hurry to look older than I am. In fact most people tell me I look much younger than I really am. So imagine my panic when the thought hit me at 3:30 in the morning, that if I can't colour my hair anymore, I'll be very grey very soon. Hard to look 10 years younger than your actual age when you have a head full of silver. I grabbed my laptop and started searching. I looked for natural hair dyes. With the exception of henna, which would give me a nice orange or red, there really are not many options out there. Even the PPD free dyes have a small amount of PPD in them.

Later that same morning, my sister called me. I told her what happened. She was shocked! She was upset with me for not going to the hospital, saying that if I was itching on the BOTTOM of my feet and and sore in my throat, that CAN'T have been good. Then she suggested I call Miss MyMy and look into getting a wig. She has had her own wig for well over two years now, and is very happy with it. I'll admit I have never really been a fan of wearing wigs or weaves. I've had bad experiences with bad hair. At this point, I really had nothing else to lose.

I made my appointment, and got my first wig. It was about a month after the allergic reaction when I had my wig sewn in for the first time. I loved it! It's been about 6 months since started wearing a wig. I still hate to see the grey in my hair when Maya is redoing my sew-in, but once it's on, I love the freedom of not having to stress about my own hair. I love the way it feels, and I love the way it looks! In fact I've been getting more compliments now about looking younger, than ever before. I look great, and I feel even better. And the best part is, my hair and my scalp are getting a break. I don't plan to use hair dyes again, so I guess for now, the answer for me, is my Miss MyMy wig. Only thing I lose sleep about now is thinking about the next wig I want, and going longer!
